Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
The upgrade to an item allows players to raise the level of equippable items such as weapons, armor and trinkets over a certain threshold. They can be purchased at any item upgrader NPC with the appropriate currency.
Slots are used to add upgrades to equipment to gain attributes and bonuses, as well as other effects. These are usually slot-restricted however, there are some universal upgrades.

This isn't feasible to implement because of the complexity of the process. There's simply not enough space to implement it properly in the UI.
A script that checks an item's upgrade requirements before allowing the item to be upgraded is an alternative solution. This method is suitable for systems that have a limited number of items that can be upgraded and a minimal upgrade dependency. A sword can be upgraded from Sword+1 to Sword+2. A script could look up the Item Definition attribute for each upgrade, and then set an Item Status of "upgraded" to confirm that the upgrade is valid.
This method is more flexible, but it requires an additional program. It's also not suitable for very complex systems.

Costs

The amount of crests or Flightstones needed to upgrade an item is contingent on the gear's level and a maximum upgrade level is established by Blizzard. Upgrading to the highest upgrade level can be expensive especially if you're upgrading PvE gear.
The upgrades to items can also alter the ammunition type of a weapon or size of the damage die, alter its operative or unwieldy special weapon property, or alter the requirements for hand use. Some upgrades can even change the appearance of a weapon.
While increasing stats is the main goal of upgrades to items however, you must consider the costs associated with upgrading an item prior to making the decision. You may prefer to make use of your gold for upgrading rare items, but do not spend it on common or magic-tier items. Upgrades to these items can waste precious resources, and you'll soon discover that rare equipment is superior to them.
Ask your guild members for their opinion if you are unsure whether upgrading is worth it. There may be cheaper upgrades at a lower cost.
